We encourage you to take a look at the April 1 article on advance directives published in the New England Journal of Medicine. A summary can be found here. This article reports on a study that provides some very encouraging statistics about the efficacy of advance directives--when they exist. Obviously, there is much more work to be done and more research is needed, but, at a minimum, the results confirm that what we are doing is important and meaningful.
